Housing Officer - £10.00 + Holiday

You will provide a tenancy management service in your area, including: tenancy enforcement, dealing with anti-social behaviour, ensuring the efficient use and management of the stock, and ensuring that excellent services are provided to tenants and leaseholders.

Duties:

  • Enforce tenancy conditions & take appropriate action in the event of any breach.
  • Responsible for dealing with any incidents of anti-social behaviour, harassment, nuisance, violence and neighbour disputes, taking appropriate action
  • Monitor vacant properties
  • Advise tenants about any aspect of their tenancy and related matters
  • Attend court; prepare all relevant Court papers and present evidence in relation to tenancy enforcement matters.
  • Prepare eviction reports and represent the council at evictions to ensure the successful repossession of properties.
  • Conduct interviews and/or undertake home visits in connection with any tenancy / leaseholder matter or enquiry & prepare management reports as appropriate.
  • Identify and support vulnerable clients, attend case conferences as appropriate and liaise with support services and other agencies.
  • Prepare regular performance information on tenancy management issues.
  • Carry out annual occupancy checks and investigate any reports of unauthorised occupation.
  • Carry out regular inspections of estates identifying, reporting and following up any issues and arrange estate walkabouts with Councillors and residents.
  • Identify and report repairs required to communal areas on estates, and monitor the progress of work.
  • Liaise with other services to ensure that tenants and leaseholders are fully consulted in the development of major works programmes in the area, and attend site / tenants meetings as required.
  • Provide references to financial institutions and tenancy information to the Home Ownership Team.
  • Liaise with other council services, the Anti-Social Behaviour Team, and external agencies (such as Bailiffs and the Department of Works and pensions etc.) to ensure the effective management of properties and the delivery of quality services to our tenants and leaseholders.
  • Liaise with Resident Involvement Team and other organisations to undertake tenant consultation exercises and encourage community participation in developing and setting service standards.
  • Attend Council meetings, tenant meetings & others as may be required outside normal working hours. 

Skills: 

  • Knowledge of public sector housing issues and law.
  • Knowledge of tenancy management issues.
  • Ability to draft memo/letters and reports to a good standard.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with residents, colleagues & workers in other agencies.
  • Ability to manage, organise and prioritise your own workload.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, show initiative and make decisions.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good IT skills, including Word & Excel
